Ontario reports over 6,000 COVID-19 cases over two days as ‘shutdown’ takes effect

Ontario reported two straight days of 3,000-plus new COVID-19 cases Saturday as the province-wide emergency brake took effect. The province recorded 3,009 new cases Saturday and 3,089 new cases Friday – the first time the daily count has topped 3,000 since Jan. 17. An additional 39 deaths were confirmed over the two-day period, as no new public health data was released on Good Friday. Hospitals reported a province-wide total of 451 patients in intensive care due to COVID-19-related critical illness, including 261 people on a ventilator.
