General Assembly Pizza gets $13M to give rise to subscription service

A Toronto restaurateur focused on data-driven e-commerce is building his pizza empire, one subscription at a time. General Assembly Pizza received $13 million in Series A funding in late February, exceeding its $3.5-million target, allowing founder Ali Khan Lalani to pivot his business model. In addition to operating a brick-and-mortar location which opened at Adelaide and Peter Sts. in 2017, he launched a subscription service, providing free delivery of vacuumed-sealed frozen pizzas to members’ homes across Ontario.
