The New York Post’s Twitter account has been suspended since Wednesday and now, Fox Business reports, Twitter has told the outlet that access will not be restored until the Post deletes certain Tweets referencing their Hunter Biden coverage. As The Daily Wire reported late last week, Twitter blocked users from posting or retweeting certain URLs associated with the Post’s coverage and then abruptly reversed course on the policy, pledging to “make changes to how it handles situations like this in the future” after widespread outcry and threat of a Congressional subpoena. “Straight blocking of URLs was wrong, and we updated our policy and enforcement to fix. Our goal is to attempt to add context, and now we have [the] capabilities to do that,” Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted on Friday.

Hunter Biden’s alleged emails are quite the item of discussion at the moment. There’d be more discussion, mind you, if the stories about it weren’t being censored on Twitter. On Wednesday, the New York Post began running a series of stories derived from data contained on a MacBook Pro that Hunter Biden allegedly took in for repair and apparently forgot about. The owner of the shop turned the computer over to the FBI, but not before making a backup of his own — one which has now begun to leak. Two Post stories in particular, which involved Hunter Biden’s apparent willingness to peddle influence or get involved with those who assumed his role would involve peddling influence, were censored by social media giant Twitter.

A news story that likely would have been ignored by the mainstream media and quickly disappeared from conversations became a flashpoint this week when social media companies rushed to censor it on their platforms. The story appeared damaging to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. The story, published by the New York Post, included emails showing Biden’s son Hunter allegedly introducing his father, who was at that time Vice President, to a Ukrainian energy executive where Hunter worked – a year before Biden demanded Ukraine fire the country’s top prosecutor who was looking into the company.

This week’s flagrant election interference by Twitter and, to a lesser extent, Facebook presents an even greater threat to free speech than it appears on the surface. The cyber-thugs who tried to kill a respected newspaper’s report on Joe Biden’s alleged influence peddling are only the sharp end of the spear of a far-sighted philosophical attack on the First Amendment. They’re not just trying to win an election. They’re trying to shut conservatives up for good. Before I get to that though, let’s first put aside this bogus argument that since Twitter and Facebook are private companies, they can do as they please. Our right to speak our minds is given to us by God.

After Twitter blocked a bombshell New York Post story on Wednesday alleging to have files from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden, Republicans came up with a clever plan to get around the big tech giant’s censoring. The House Judiciary Committee Republicans on Wednesday republished the New York Post story on their official government website. If Twitter was going to keep playing this game, the company was going to have to block users from being able to see a government website, which certainly would not be a good look for the social media company that has come under fire on numerous occasions for disproportionately censoring conservative voices over liberal ones.
