Canada’s Supreme Court has made a supreme fool of Doug Ford — and everyone he fooled into voting for his phoney war against carbon pricing. Three years after the premier promised to “Axe the tax” by defying the laws of political gravity, he has been brought back to earth. The earth is warming, the political climate is changing, and Ford’s phantom crusade has crashed headlong into legal and constitutional reality. Ford boasted about allocating a whopping $30 million for a war of words with Ottawa that added up to a whopper. Today, that tally — still not fully accounted for — is as incomprehensible as it is indefensible and wasteful.
