Pentagon Receives Request to Extend National Guard Stay at Capitol

Even as Capitol Incursion 2.0 — bruited about in liberal circles to be an expected deluge of Trump supporters upon Washington to mark the once-traditional day presidents were inaugurated — turned out to be all talk and no action, the Capitol police are asking the National Guard to remain in Washington. In theory, the 5,200-person Guard contingent that remains of the troops that once numbered 25,000 is scheduled to pack up on March 12, ending a deployment that has cost almost $500 million. The troops were called to Washington to protect the inauguration of President Joe Biden, but as weeks passed with no threats in sight, the numbers were reduced to the current level.
