To Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the decision by his state’s Republican leadership last fall to stand firm against allowing local Democratic officials to send out millions of “illegal” mail-in ballot applications saved the integrity of the 2020 election — while denying Joe Biden a potential victory in the Lone Star State. We’ll never know what election outcomes might have been elsewhere, had Democrats in states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and others not taken advantage of the coronavirus pandemic in order to send out such ballots and ballot applications. But Paxton, speaking on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast on Friday, said Texas averted a disaster by refusing to let Democrats in the populous Harris County — home to Houston — go rogue and violate state elections laws. “We would’ve been in the same boat. We would’ve been one of those battleground states that were counting votes in Harris County for three days, and Donald Trump would’ve lost the election. Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal, and we were able to stop every one of them,” Paxton said.
