GOLDSTEIN: How Trudeau changed his tune on Canada’s vaccine shortage
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is telling Canadians a very different story about our vaccine shortage now compared to what he said late last year. Despite his urgency today, in November Trudeau’s message was that Canadians would have to wait because: 1. Canada wouldn’t receive any COVID-19 vaccines until early 2021. 2. Deliveries would be slower than in countries with domestic vaccine manufacturers because they were “obviously going to prioritize helping their citizens first.” 3. While Canada was in the early stages of developing a domestic vaccine industry, it would take “years” to complete, mainly to prepare for future pandemics, not COVID-19.
