“Terrified Of This Government’s Uncontrolled Spending?”: Poilievre Wonders Why Deputy Finance Minister Resigned Abruptly

In the House of Comments, Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre wondered why Deputy Finance Minister Paul Rochon resigned so abruptly after the government tabled their fiscal update. Rochon is respected by many across the political spectrum, and had been seen as a ‘voice of reason’ in the Finance Department, in contrast to how many view the Liberal government. The day after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled the fiscal update, featuring a $400 billion deficit and $100 billion in new spending, Rochon announced he would be stepping down. Many have been speculating as to whether this is due to internal disagreements in the Finance Department, wondering if Rochon simply couldn’t be a part of this any more.
