Support for enacting stricter gun control laws has dropped to its lowest level in four years, according to a new survey. Amid a year of record gun sales, Gallup reported Monday that support for stricter gun control laws has slipped significantly. “In the absence of a high-profile mass shooting in the U.S. in 2020 and amid the coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest related to racial justice issues and the contentious presidential election campaign, Americans are less likely than they have been since 2016 to call for increased gun control,” the pollster reported. Gallup reported that 57 percent of Americans answered that gun control laws should be “more strict” when asked the question, “In general, do you feel that the laws covering the sale of firearms should be made more strict, less strict or kept as they are now?”
