When does a law matter? As it exists on the books? Or just when it is something we agree with, controls the behaviour of others or isn’t too inconvenient for ourselves? In 2006 Member of Parliament Yasmin Ratansi rose in the House of Commons to condemn “holier than thou” politicians who were “caught at the trough” for rewarding friends with tax dollars. She demanded a repayment of, “mis-gotten money to Canadian taxpayers.”
