As a percentage of GDP, Canada has among the highest budget deficits in the world, perhaps the largest. Yet, for all of that spending, we are getting worse outcomes. This is something that Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre has been pointing out for some time. In response, some Liberals have been claiming that our numbers only look bad because other countries may use a different technique for coming up with their unemployment statistics. So, in response to that criticism, Poilievre shared the following chart from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which uses the same technique to arrive at the unemployment rate in all countries.
