Jamil Jivani: Ontario takes real steps to empower black youth


For much of 2020, governments, businesses and non-profits have been scrambling to identify how they can help address racism and inequality. Unfortunately, many of these efforts have been informed by an ideology that is more preoccupied with “acceptable” interventions, as dictated by liberal dogma, instead of meaningful policy measures that respect the inherent dignity of each individual and have a positive effect on the long-term economic well-being of the communities that are most in need. As a member of the black community, I have seen first-hand how paternalistic initiatives have resulted in negative, disempowering messages directed at black youth.
