Restaurant owner with ‘dining dome’ frustrated with lack of Ontario government clarity

Restaurant owners who have dining domes can’t helped but feel a little doomed. Gare De l’Est, a Leslieville French brasserie, was dinged by Toronto Public Health on Saturday for using its dome — an enclosed, bubble-like, but ventilated, outdoor dining space. Inspectors confirmed the pod at 1190 Dundas St. E. was shut down and the owner, Erik Joyal, given a warning that he needed to stop using it or face a fine between $100,000 to $500,000, with the possibility of a year’s jail time upon conviction.
