Toronto one step closer to banning two-stroke lawn equipment

A motion was tabled by Councillor Stephen Holyday to accept the report as information, who warned council to be cautious about how its actions are perceived by the public. “If our objective is to annoy people, then move forward with this,” he said, adding that Toronto Public Health are far too occupied with COVID-19 to be studying lawnmowers and chainsaws. “If we put through a ban on this type of power equipment, then there’s going to be two types of reactions — half of the people will look at city hall and laugh and say ‘Good luck, I’m not giving up my equipment,’ and the other half will be just be even more angry with us.” Holyday’s motion was defeated seven to 14.
