Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan says Canadians have to be open to the idea of more nuclear power generation if this country is to meet the carbon emissions reduction targets it agreed to five years ago in Paris. O’Regan spoke to CBC’s The House in advance of next week’s speech from the throne, which the prime minister and others say will include measures to ensure the post-COVID-19 recovery leads to a greener economy. While the exact details are still being worked out, O’Regan suggested the speech could include commitments to improving energy efficiency in homes and businesses and promises to invest in clean technology, such as hydrogen fuel cells and small modular reactors (SMRs).
