OTTAWA — Outgoing Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is pitching a revision to the existing Canada Emergency Response Benefit to incentivize Canadians to return to work or look for a job as the economy reopens. As it stands, the program cuts off eligibility to those who make more than $1,000 per month, which the Tories have argued is discouraging Canadian workers from weaning off government aid. Under the Conservatives proposed “Back to Work Bonus,” workers who make between $1,000 and $5,000 per month would receive 50 cents for every extra dollar earned above the $1,000 threshold.
