Radio announcers are going to have to watch what they say more than usual moving forward. That’s because a national broadcast regulator ruled Wednesday that sarcastic remarks about federal regulations won’t stand, according to Blacklock’s Reporter. “The role of news coverage serves an important public interest purpose,” wrote the Canada Broadcast Standards Council. “It is essential in a democratic system, and it is for this reason a traditional newscast needs to be objective and factual and does not lend itself to the inclusion of opinion or commentary.”
