CAMBRIDGE — Toyota is extending the shutdown of its North American manufacturing plants until May 4. Workers had expected to return to the plants on April 20, after pandemic-related closures began March 19. The closure includes Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s facilities in Cambridge and Woodstock, which employ about 8,500 people. “Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and decline in vehicle demand, Toyota is further extending the length of its production suspension at all of its automobile and components plants in North America, including Canada, Mexico and the U.S.,” corporate communications manager Michael Bouliane said in an email Wednesday.
