The total number of cases of the novel coronavirus in Canada reached a new high on Wednesday, climbing past 9,000 and getting close to 10,000 by the end of the day. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada and provincial health authorities, as of April 1, the country recorded 2,004 new cases, bringing the countrywide total to 9,712. That’s up from 7,708 total cases as of mid-day March 31. Fifteen new deaths were reported, bringing the number of fatalities in Canada to 111. In Ontario alone, there were 426 new cases reported Wednesday — the largest number for the province so far — and four new deaths. This brings the total number of cases in Ontario to 2,392. “What you don’t see with these numbers is, when did these people get sick?” said Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer.
